The Story of Beer
The sight of stray dogs is a common phenomenon, one that nobody seems all too concerned about. Stray dogs with bruises and empty stomachs, wagging tails and hopeful eyes. Everyday, thousands of animals are abused. They are run over and left to die. They are beaten with sticks and pelted with stones and yet nobody bats an eye.
In Pakistan, most people are concerned with what they feel are the greater problems, events that make it to the evening news. In a sensationalized world, there is no space to care about an innocent animal’s life. For most of us, they are just brutes who do not deserve even a moment’s thought and kindness and consideration aren’t traits that should be directed towards an animal.
Due to this rigid mentality, when animal rescue projects come up, they are often met with only skepticism. For some people, the issue of animal negligence and abuse is a nonexistent one. Animal Care Association of Pakistan, however, remains focused on its objective because to us, every life is significant and priceless.
An example of such animals is Beer who was run over by a vehicle earlier this year while he was seeking refuge under a parked vehicle, which resulted in him breaking his back legs and hips. This was brought to the attention of a local citizen of Gujranwala named Fahad who reported this back to the Animal Care Association of Pakistan as there was a lack of medical facilities for animals in Gujranwala so nothing could be done to come to the animal’s aid. Under the assistance of their head Kumael, ACAP took immediate action as it got in contact with Fahad regarding Beer’s whereabouts. An animal activist named Hamza was brought on board given his particular expertise with handicapped dogs.
Soon, the story of Beer circulated internationally on various social media platforms and hundreds of people were left dismal at the sight of the poor, listless creature. The plan to transport Beer to Lahore was met with many hurdles given the fact that it was the last week of Ramadan and so public as well as private transport was difficult to find. Many strings were pulled and Beer was finally transported to Lahore, approximately fifteen days after his accident took place. Hamza had already booked a vet and a medical examination determined that his internal organs had thankfully sustained no major damage, despite the fact that he could not walk.
Beer is currently on a special diet to regain his health and his pain is regularly monitored. Vaccination requirements have also been catered to. Rather than just the medical assistance, Beer is being provided with mental support as well as love and kindness due to the fact that the poor soul had been helpless and alone nearly all his life. Progress has been made given how little Beer is only one shot away from his surgery.
Beer is one of numerous voiceless angels who have been saved by the Animal Care Association of Pakistan. Credit must be given where it is due to the kindhearted individuals, vets and organizations involved. We commend your efforts and encourage your involvement. We have a common objective which is to return the rights where they are stolen and to offer dutiful protection to these animals. We wish Beer all the best in his journey and are beside ourselves with excitement for the future to unravel and reveal all the beautiful things that lie in store for Beer, and all such other creatures. As for us, we will continue to come to the aid of all these creatures, providing them the safety, affection and attention that they deserve.
