New Kitten?
Are you planning on getting a new kitten or have recently gotten one? You probably would want to know the basics specially if it is your first time. Here you will find all the basic things you need to know to care of your little munchkin.
Food
The first and most important thing to have is good food. Kittens require good food as they are growing. Food you give will determine their health later on in their life.
The most important is the dry food you give. It will be the staple for your kitten and must always be available. It is preferred that you feed kitten food. Good brands are royalcanin and josera. Stay clear of Me-o as it has been causing problems. Also Feed your cat wet canned food as it will help in the overall health of your cat.
Food Bowls
Food Bowls are a must. The kittens learn to eat from a bowl and will not eat off the ground. In the future this will prevent the felines from maybe eating toxic things off the ground. Place the bowls in an accessible area. Always have fresh water available. For the first 6 months, food should also be available to the kitten.
Litter
Cats are naturally clean animals and b the time you get them, they are already litter trained. Once you bring them home, they will need a litter box with litter. Make sure that the litter box you get is atleast 4inches high as cats tend to dig which may result in litter flying out. For litter you can use either store bought litter or sand. Sand will not absorb the smell but you can fix that by adding a small amount of talc and baking soda. Store bought litter may be much easier as it not only absorbs the smells, it is also much easier to clean. Clean out the litter box atleast once a day to maintain hygiene. Fill the litter box enough to create a depth of 1inch.
Toys
It is very common that people do not provide felines with toys. Most people think that only dogs need toys however it is equally important to give them to felines. It will keep them occupied and prevent undesirable behavior like biting. The toys can be diy like tying a string to a stick or proper ones. Balls are also a great toy. Whether it is a paper ball or ping pong one, they will love to chase it.
Scratcher
Felines scratch. It is a common fact and if you dont want little fluffy to scratch up your nice furniture, please get something for her to scratch on. Scratchers can be simple carpet or you could get a scratching post.
Vet care
Having a stable vet is very very important. Find one that suits you and has a good reputation. This vet will be responsible for all ailments, the vaccinations and maintenance of your feline friend. He will also be very helpful in guiding you according to your kittens needs.
